Kenyan Kevin Ragui Clinches Victory at Kourittenga’s 4th Marathon of Peace

Kourittenga: The 4th edition of the Peace Marathon concluded in Koupla, highlighting a theme centered on "Patriotism and National Sovereignty: Foundations of Inclusive and Sustainable Development". The final day of the event featured the men's professional international marathon, a women's professional half-marathon, and a 10 km race for young participants under 18 years old.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Kenyan athlete Kevin Ragui won the men's professional international marathon, completing the 42.195 km course in 2 hours, 25 minutes, and 15 seconds. In the women's international half-marathon, Ghanaian runner Aidoo Mariama secured first place, finishing the 21 km distance in 1 hour, 19 minutes, and 40 seconds.

In the under 18 category, Paulin Nar and Yolande Waongo triumphed in the boys and girls 10 km half-marathon race, respectively. Each winner was awarded monetary prizes along with additional items. Kevin Ragui received 1 million FCFA, while Aidoo Mariama was awarded 500,000 FCFA. Winners in the youth category received 100,000 FCFA, a bike, and kits.

Local achievements were also celebrated with Jean Emile Yamogo taking both the first national and provincial prizes. Florence Kinda and Saly Ouattara won the first Burkinabe and first FDS prizes in the women's categories, respectively, while Yaya Sidib claimed the men's FDS prize. Special recognitions were given to the first woman VDP, the oldest participant, and the coordinator of the citizen watch of Kourittenga.

Ousmane Sandwidi, president of the organizing committee and the event's initiator, expressed gratitude towards the participants and supporters. He emphasized the importance of continuing the event to promote excellence and bolster the sovereignty and development of the country. Sandwidi also noted the enhanced performance of Burkinabe athletes, with one finishing in eighth place among international competitors. The community looks forward to the next edition.
