Kenyan Government Invests in Education for National Growth, CS Mvurya Announces

KWALE – The Kenyan government is intensifying its investment in the education sector as a strategic move to eradicate poverty and accelerate socio-economic development.

According to Kenya News Agency, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Salim Mvurya. Speaking at the inauguration of new educational facilities in Kinango constituency, Kwale County, CS Mvurya highlighted the government’s commitment to revitalizing education across the nation.

During the event at Salim Mvurya Secondary School, which saw the unveiling of two classrooms, a laboratory, and the handover of a new school bus, CS Mvurya articulated education’s pivotal role in fostering development and growth. He announced a significant Sh5 million donation to the school from President Dr. William Ruto, underscoring the national leadership’s support for educational advancement.

Mvurya, who previously served as Kwale Governor, emphasized the continuous government support for the enhancement of secondary school infrastructure in Kwale to facilitate the transition of learners from primary to secondary education. The newly built classrooms and science laboratory were funded by the local Kinango National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG CDF), reflecting a broader strategy to improve access to quality basic education for all Kenyan children.

The Cabinet Secretary called for collaboration among educational stakeholders to address the challenge of out-of-school children in the county and encouraged adherence to the government’s 100 percent transition policy from primary to secondary education. Mvurya also highlighted the full adoption of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) at all levels of education, ensuring that Kenya’s education system remains relevant and globally competitive.

The event was attended by Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani, Kinango MP Gonzi Rai, and other dignitaries. Governor Achani reiterated the county government’s focus on making Kwale a model in the education sector, with the ‘Elimu Ni Sasa’ bursary scheme’s annual budget increased to Sh500 million to support more students.

Additionally, CS Mvurya inaugurated Muzuri Primary School in Mwereni Ward, Lunga Lunga sub-county, a project funded by the Saidia Kwale Foundation, which undertakes initiatives in education, health, agriculture, and water. The foundation’s efforts, along with the government’s strategic investments, aim to propel Kwale and the entire country towards significant educational and economic milestones.
