In Kenya, rice imports amounted to 702,249 tonnes between January and June 2023. This cereal is the 3rd most consumed behind corn and wheat. This level represents more than double the volume recorded a year earlier during the same period and already exceeds the stock acquired during the entire year of 2022 (678,110 tonnes). The strong growth in purchases is mainly explained by the decision taken last February by the executive to facilitate the purchase of 600,000 tonnes of rice until August.
