Nairobi: Kenya Power Company (KPC) has launched its 2024 Sustainability Strategy to establish a robust, resilient, and sustainable energy ecosystem. The company’s Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. (Eng.) Joseph Siror emphasized that the strategy not only safeguards and protects the environment but also caters to the needs of the community.
According to Kenya News Agency, the General Manager of Finance Stephen Vikiru announced that KPC aims to promote environmental sustainability and economic empowerment through social investment and community wellness. During the launch held in Nairobi, the MD mentioned that Kenya Power is leveraging power from its stakeholders to foster the adoption of new technologies and energy within the energy sector.
Dr. Siror highlighted key initiatives like E-Mobility, which fosters the sustainable use of electric vehicles and the promotion of portable electric gadgets that not only offer clean cooking options but also lower electricity consumption. The MD
noted that businesses have shifted from traditional economic models to more inclusive models that factor in the impact of industrial operations on the environment and the community.
He stated that Kenya Power has adopted the Just Energy Transition (JET) framework that not only fosters the socio-economic responsibility of the company but also serves the community’s interests. Speaking at the event, KPC General Manager (GM) of Business Strategy Eng. Eng. Machasio highlighted that the strategy would offer equal employment opportunities, deepen access to clean and reliable energy, offer fair labor practices, and support local businesses. The strategy would focus on four key areas, namely environmental stewardship, robust governance, social responsibility, and economic resilience.
He announced that to foster a thriving environment, KPC s

Other pillars include human capital, which seeks to ensure fair labor practices, and operational excellence, which would improve system efficiency and customer centricity, supporting biodiversity conservation.
