Meru: The Ministry of Education has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Economic Affairs, Education, and Research of the Swiss Confederation to promote collaboration in research, technology, and innovation. The MoU was signed by the Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Dr. Belio Kipsang, representing the Ministry of Education, while the Swiss Confederation was represented by the State Secretary for Education, Research, and Innovation, Martina Hirayama, at a ceremony held at Jogoo House in Nairobi.
According to Kenya News Agency, Dr. Belio stated that the partnership aims to create opportunities for exchange programs for lecturers from both countries, provide scholarship opportunities for Kenyan students to study in Switzerland, initiate joint research projects, and facilitate knowledge-sharing programs. ‘This agreement marks a significant step in strengthening ties between Kenya and Switzerland, fostering innovation and growth in education and research for mutual benefit,’ s

To ensure effective implementation of the MoU, both parties have agreed to establish a technical working committee. The signing ceremony was attended by Swiss Ambassador to Kenya Mirko Giulietti, the Secretary for University Education and Research Dr. Carol Hunja, the Director of Higher Education Mr. Ogutu, the Director of Research Dr. Roselinda Owuor, and officials from the State Department for Higher Education and Research and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
