Kenedougou Fruit and Vegetable Sector Boosted by New Purchasing Center

Kenedougou: The urban commune of Orodara officially inaugurated a modern fruit and vegetable purchasing center on Saturday, January 24, 2026, aimed at strengthening agricultural competitiveness and boosting the local economy. The ceremony was presided over by the High Commissioner of the Kenedougou Province, Sadou Sakira.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the project was carried out by the Agricultural Resilience and Competitiveness Project (PReCA), with technical and financial support from the government of Burkina Faso and the World Bank. It required a total investment estimated at 558,606,322 FCFA.

The facility comprises six type 1 warehouses, two type 2 warehouses, two type 3 warehouses, two packaging warehouses, an administrative building, a restaurant, a police station, a guardhouse, a perimeter fence with garbage bins, two indoor parking lots, one outdoor parking lot, and two latrine blocks. It also features internal roads and a drinking water supply system.

Emmanuel Forogo, the acting head of the PReCA office in the Guiriko region and representing the project coordinator, stated that this investment is part of a comprehensive vision to modernize the agricultural sector. He specified that PReCA has invested over 10 billion CFA francs in the Kenedougou province through infrastructure projects and initiatives aimed at strengthening the resilience of the population and agricultural competitiveness.

The president of the special delegation of the urban commune of Orodara, Emmanuel Konate, welcomed the completion of this strategic infrastructure. He indicated that this market will serve as a showcase for promoting local fruits and vegetables and will contribute to reducing post-harvest losses, creating jobs, and strengthening the local economy.

The High Commissioner of the Kenedougou province emphasized that the commissioning of this trading post marks an important step in the structuring of agricultural sectors. He invited the stakeholders to fully take ownership of the infrastructure and urged the beneficiaries of the shops as well as the managing Economic Interest Group (EIG) to respect the regulations in force in order to ensure sustainable operation for the benefit of the population.

At the end of the ceremony, the province's top official presented the operating contract to the stakeholders involved.
