Kénédougou Culinary Festival Promotes Local Dishes Amid Security Challenges

Kénédougou: The CHO-GNON Association of Kourinion organized the second edition of the culinary art festival from April 30 to May 2, 2025, with a focus on promoting local dishes. The theme of the event was “Promotion of local dishes: a factor of endogenous development and empowerment of women in a context of security challenges.”

According to Burkina Information Agency, the festival was held under the patronage of His Majesty the Chief of the Guena Pindjatin canton and sponsored by Lassana Sanogo, Chief of the Kourinion Basic Education District, and Amélie Traoré/Hien, a water and forest engineer. The event is seen as an act of peaceful resistance and an affirmation of the community’s identity amid security concerns.

The festival aimed to revive and promote local dishes, showcasing ancestral recipes that have become rare. Awa Bayala/Traoré, the president of the CHO-GNON association, emphasized that the festival celebrates their culinary heritage. She highlighted the role of women in preserving this heritage
and contributing to the socio-economic development of the nation.

Sponsor Lassina Sanogo noted that the festival provided a platform for constructive exchanges and relationship-building while celebrating local female expertise. The President of the special delegation of the commune of Kourinion, Houroudjin Héma, and the head of the Guena canton praised the organizing committee for their cultural initiative.

During the 72-hour event, attendees enjoyed exhibitions of local dishes, performances by artistic troupes, and a bustling shopping street.
