Ouagadougou: The people of Kelbo, in the province of Soum, mobilized strongly on Thursday, at the call of the president of the special delegation (PDS), Fidele BAZEMO, for a day of community work aimed at limiting the damage caused by runoff water in the commune.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the initiative, led by Fidele BAZEMO, was part of efforts to protect infrastructure and residents from the harmful effects of rainwater. Armed with empty bags, shovels, and pickaxes, the residents took to various sites early in the morning to work on a river and two public roads that had suffered severe degradation.
Fidele BAZEMO explained that the municipality's lack of structured housing development has allowed runoff water to traverse multiple areas, causing significant damage. The community work aimed to slow the water's speed and minimize the damage. He also emphasized the need to secure degraded areas to prevent accidents, especially for children who might be exposed to holes created by water.
Ilyassa Rabo, chairman of the central Village Development Council (CVD), praised the community's strong mobilization and thanked participants for their dedication to the commune's development. Residents were encouraged to fill in the holes left by the water to facilitate rainwater flow and preserve the roads. Rabo highlighted the active participation of the PDS and the Kelbo CCEB in these community projects and called for increased governmental support for the municipality.
Daouda Rabo, the president of the youth of Kelbo, remarked that the mobilization demonstrated the community's commitment to local development. "This is an initiative of the PDS that everyone has voluntarily agreed to support for the well-being of our community," he stated.
Hamadoum IBA, focal point for social action and member of the CCEB, also commended the initiative and the local authorities' commitment to the population's well-being. He expressed gratitude to the residents for their strong involvement in community projects.
