KAYA - The Kaya refrigerated slaughterhouse (AFK), with a daily capacity for processing numerous livestock, officially started operations yesterday.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the AFK was inaugurated on July 1, 2024, at 10 p.m., with the ceremonial first cut attended by members of the special municipal delegation. The facility, which had faced initial operational delays since its approval in 2016, was completed at a cost of approximately 2 billion FCFA. It is designed to process 100 small ruminants, 20 cattle, and 50 pigs daily.
The state-of-the-art slaughterhouse is equipped with various facilities, including a biological wastewater treatment plant, an incinerator block, an administrative building, and more. It aims to enhance the meat supply chain in Kaya, particularly benefiting the Couracoura region, known for its leather and skewers. The facility will replace the older, now inadequate Sector 3 slaughterhouse.
