KAYA — Community and health leaders gathered in Kaya on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, for a critical workshop organized by the Association for the Promotion of Community Health and Development of the Center-North (APSCD/CN). The event was aimed at educating local stakeholders about the universal health insurance scheme (RAMU) to ensure its effective implementation in the Kaya health district.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the focal point for the event, the workshop is part of a broader initiative entitled “community monitoring project to improve access for vulnerable groups and internally displaced persons to health services, health insurance, and social protection in Burkina Faso.” Its goal is to enhance the understanding and engagement of community leaders and health sector stakeholders in the health districts where RAMU is being rolled out.
Idrissa Gansonré, the High Commissioner of the Sanmatenga province, emphasized that the workshop aligns with the government’s health policy objectives to enhance access to quality healthcare for all Burkinabé. Participants were encouraged from the outset to absorb the information and act as effective communicators within their communities to support the successful deployment of RAMU.
The workshop, led by Eugène Bakouan, SPONG Project Manager, provided extensive discussions on RAMU and related projects. By the end of the 24-hour session, participants expressed a deepened understanding of RAMU and readiness to promote its implementation actively.
This initiative also ties into the strategic goals outlined in SPONG’s 2023-2032 strategic plan, which focuses on promoting citizenship and enhancing public action oversight by NGOs and other organizations in Burkina Faso by 2032. Participants pledged to engage in community monitoring, mobilization, advocacy, and questioning actions to bolster RAMU’s rollout and its mission to mitigate health-related vulnerabilities in the nation.
