NKURENKURU: The Kavango West Regional Council has taken significant steps to support local entrepreneurship by providing essential resources to a poultry farm in Kakuro village. On Friday, the council handed over equipment and poultry feed valued at 58,000 Namibian dollars to Tupeniko Poultry Farming, owned by Veikko Mandume, as part of its Micro Finance and Rural Employment Scheme.
According to Namibia News Agency, this initiative marks the second distribution of resources under the employment scheme, following a recent handover of agricultural equipment worth 65,828 Namibian dollars to another small business in the Mpungu Constituency. Nkurenkuru Constituency Councillor Fillipus Tenga emphasized the importance of the funds, which were allocated from the 2023/24 budget. The aim is to empower the youth and marginalized individuals in the constituency who are already engaged in projects that require further development.
Councillor Tenga expressed the hope that Mandume will utilize the provided materials to e
xpand his business operations. “We would like to see him producing more so once the business grows, he can employ others and also train others who also want to start poultry farms,” Tenga stated during the handover ceremony. In response, Mandume expressed gratitude to the regional council, acknowledging the challenges faced in running the business, particularly the high cost of chicken feed and the need to travel to Rundu for supplies and medication for the chickens.
