Nkurenkuru: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has urged leaders and communities in Kavango West to take ownership of the fight against corruption during consultations in Nkurenkuru on the 2026-2030 strategy. ACC Deputy Director-General Erna van der Merwe emphasized the importance of regional input in shaping the new national strategy and policy framework. According to Namibia Press Agency, Van der Merwe stressed that the new strategy and action plan follow the previous ones for 2016-2019 and 2021-2025, which were endorsed by the Cabinet. She highlighted the necessity of developing the third National Anti-Corruption Strategy and Action Plan to continuously strengthen national anti-corruption programs. Van der Merwe warned that mismanagement of public resources poses a significant threat to development. She noted that corruption is a serious issue that erodes the moral fabric of society. She advocated for the prevention of corruption through effective policies, laws, codes of ethics, and proper oversight. S he clarified that the framework is national and not confined to the ACC. Van der Merwe called for collective responsibility in fighting corruption and promoting ethical values, urging all stakeholders, citizens, and institutions to participate actively. Kavango West Governor Verna Sinimbo expressed support for the ACC's initiative, highlighting the significance of the consultation as the second national anti-corruption strategy concludes. Sinimbo pointed out that corruption is a major barrier to development, affecting service delivery, weakening institutions, discouraging investment, and eroding public confidence in leadership. She emphasized the importance of utilizing resources efficiently to benefit rural communities in regions like Kavango West.
