Katima Mulilo Urban Councillor Seeks Engagement with Town Council on Resident Concerns

Katima Mulilo: Kennedy Simasiku, the Councillor for Katima Mulilo Urban Constituency, is calling for the Katima Mulilo Town Council (KMTC) to urgently engage with the public on pressing community issues. This call follows a recent public demonstration where residents voiced various concerns, including the removal of the debt collection agency Redforce and issues related to municipal charges.

According to The Namibian Press Agency, who spoke with Nampa, an invitation has been extended to KMTC to join the Constituency in addressing these concerns. He emphasized the need for clarity and decision-making in matters such as the treatment of pensioners regarding municipal payments and the sequencing and communication of invoicing dates. Simasiku highlighted the current economic challenges and suggested that the recovery burden should not be entirely placed on end-users.

At a public demonstration two weeks ago, residents called for the closure of Redforce and the removal of KMTC councillors and the chief executive officer, citing failures in service delivery, water shortages, and corruption. The petition was handed to Katima Mulilo Town Council Mayor Lister Shamalaza, who promised prompt feedback. A full response is expected on Sunday during a council meeting that will include CEO Raphael Liswaniso.
