Oshikoto: The Governor of the Oshikoto Region, Sacky Kathindi, on Thursday donated 10 heavy-duty water tanks to schools in the region. The donation is valued at over N.dollars 232,000 and aims to address the critical water challenges faced by several schools. According to Namibia Press Agency, the beneficiary schools include Onampengu Combined School, Oshiya Combined School, Onankali South Combined School, and Emanya Senior Secondary School. During the official handover, Governor Kathindi emphasized the importance of reliable and safe water access for learning institutions, especially those with community hostels. He noted that without adequate water, learners' health is at risk, hygiene standards drop, and the quality of education suffers. Kathindi stated, "As leadership, we cannot allow such basic challenges to undermine the future of our children." The initiative is part of ongoing efforts, with Kathindi assuring continued assessments of schools across the Oshikoto Region to ensure equitable and evidence -based interventions. Oshikoto Education Director Hilma Nuunyango-George highlighted that many schools in the region face water shortages during the dry season. "The donation will definitely come in handy for our schools and especially the learners in the community hostels," she said, noting the reduced need for students and staff to travel long distances for water. The donation is seen as a step towards enhancing learner welfare and improving service delivery in the education sector, with stakeholders underscoring the collective responsibility to foster an environment conducive to quality education.
