Kasongo and Omuhanuua Triumph in Councillor Pakarae Tournament

Epukiro: Kasongo netball team and Omuhanuua FC emerged victorious at the Councillor Pineal Packy Pakarae Open tournament, hosted at the Epukiro Post 3 sports ground in the Omaheke Region on Sunday. According to Namibia Press Agency, the inaugural tournament, which offered a total prize pool of N.dollars 20,000, featured ten football teams and four netball teams. The football competition saw Kasongo FC advancing to the finals after a dramatic 7-5 penalty win over Teachers Eleven, following a one-all draw in regulation time. In the other semifinal, Omuhanuua FC secured their spot in the final by defeating Kalkpan A team 4-3 on penalties, after a goalless draw. The final match between Kasongo FC and Omuhanuua FC ended in a deadlock with each team scoring once, leading to another penalty showdown. Omuhanuua FC clinched the title of Honourable Pineal Packy Pakarae champions by edging out Kasongo 12-11 in the penalty shootout. As champions, Omuhanuua FC received a trophy, N.dollars 7,000 in cash, and 20 gold meda ls, while Kasongo FC, the runners-up, were awarded N.dollars 3,500 and 20 silver medals. The semifinalists, Kalkpan A and Teachers Eleven, each earned N.dollars 1,250. In the netball category, Kasongo A team emerged victorious, securing the top spot and taking home a trophy, N.dollars 3,300, and 12 gold medals. Otjozondjima claimed the second position, receiving N.dollars 2,200 and 20 gold medals. The third-place finishers, Omuhanuua and Kasongo B, pocketed N.dollars 750 each. Umue Nguvauva, one of the event organizers, expressed satisfaction with the smooth execution of the tournament. He noted that the competition served as a preparatory event for an upcoming tournament in December. Nguvauva highlighted the eagerness and readiness of the teams, emphasizing the impressive participation of the youth, who showcased their talent throughout the event.
