Windhoek: Karibu Fishing has donated N.dollars 290 000 to the Kunene Region Capital Foundation, a catalyst fund established to support community development and economic empowerment initiatives across the region. Receiving the donation in Windhoek on Thursday, Kunene Governor Vipuakuje Muharukua said the gesture marks the beginning of efforts to strengthen rural economies and support emerging entrepreneurs in the region. According to Namibia Press Agency, Governor Muharukua emphasized the importance of optimizing agricultural productivity and expressed gratitude towards Karibu Fishing for their contribution. "We want to ensure that every farmer optimizes every single hectare and every single inch of their farms. Karibu has given us a key to the farm in operationalizing our capital fund," he stated. He also appealed to the private sector, well-wishers, and development partners to support the initiative, clarifying that the call for support is not for handouts but for opportunities to foster a thriving communi ty. The governor conveyed his confidence in the potential growth of the fund through investments in micro-businesses and community enterprises. "One thing I am prepared to put my political career on is that these businesses will not fail. They will replicate," he assured. In a speech delivered on her behalf, Minister of International Relations and Trade Selma Ashipala-Musavyi described the donation as a significant contribution towards community development and economic empowerment in the Kunene Region. She highlighted the shared commitment between the private sector and regional leadership to promote entrepreneurship, support emerging businesses, create employment opportunities, and improve livelihoods. Swapo Party Deputy Secretary General and Member of Parliament Uahekua Herunga praised Governor Muharukua for his leadership and initiative in mobilizing support for the region. "It is because you approached them and knocked at their doors. That is the leadership of the honourable governor. We appreciate yo ur efforts and hope other companies will follow this important example," he said. The Kunene Region Capital Foundation is expected to be officially launched later this month.
