Kapenguria Road Users Welcome Marked Speed Bumps for Improved Safety

KAPENGURIA, Kenya — Road users in Kapenguria Municipality are expressing relief and satisfaction as recent improvements have been made to the Sakas road, particularly with the marking of new speed bumps which have significantly enhanced road safety. The installation of these marked speed bumps has addressed previous concerns about the lack of visible traffic calming measures on this busy route.

According to Kenya News Agency, the decision to add clear markings to the speed bumps was a direct response to calls from local motorists and residents. These users had voiced concerns over unmarked speed bumps which posed a safety risk, especially at night and for those unfamiliar with the road. The road is known for its sharp bends and had recently seen an increase in accidents due to these unmarked features.

Motorist Alfred Nyongesa told KNA that the newly marked speed bumps have made the road safer for everyone, allowing drivers to be aware of when to slow down and when it is safe to overtake. Nyongesa emphasized the need for regular maintenance of the markings to cope with the high traffic volume and prevent the markings from fading.

The issue of road safety on Sakas road came to the forefront after initial complaints about irregular and illegally installed bumps, which were non-standard and hazardous to road users. Following these complaints, KURA erected standard speed bumps but initially did not provide adequate markings. The new changes have not only resolved the issue of visibility but also introduced zebra crossings in areas with high pedestrian and animal traffic, further enhancing safety for all road users.

The community’s feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, reflecting a significant improvement in both the comfort and safety of commuting along the busy highway leading to the county headquarters.
