Kanalelo Proud of Progress Despite FC Ongos Departure

Windhoek: Former FC Ongos men's football team head coach Ronny Kanalelo says he leaves the club proud of the progress made during his tenure, despite stepping down from the role. Kanalelo was appointed in November 2025 and guided FC Ongos to a fourth-place finish in the 2025/26 Namibia Premier Football League season. According to Namibia Press Agency, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) A Licence coach officially parted ways with the club on Wednesday, with immediate effect. Speaking to Nampa, Kanalelo said the club had established a solid foundation and made significant progress, despite facing challenges in strengthening the squad. Kanalelo remarked on the importance of aligning a club's ambitions with its resources, citing financial constraints as a limitation in recruiting players suited to FC Ongos's technical and tactical style. He emphasized the necessity of working with available resources to achieve certain goals, despite some players not fitting into the preferred playing style. The leagu e-winning coach expressed a desire to build on the team's promising campaign by reinforcing the squad ahead of the new season, aiming to align with the club's ambitions and style of play. However, financial considerations prevented the acquisition of identified transfer targets, as the costs proved prohibitive. Kanalelo noted that while every coach aspires to compete for league honours, sustained success hinges on continued investment in the playing squad. He acknowledged the financial challenges that became a barrier to progress, leading to his decision to step aside for someone else to advance the team's aspirations without overlooking the progress already made.
