Kampti: The Kampti border veterinary control post proceeded, on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at around 10 p.m., to seize 1,400 one-day-old chicks, discovered on board a transport bus coming from a neighboring country and destined for Bobo-Dioulasso.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the head of the Kampti border veterinary checkpoint, Mr. Sessouma Ibrahim, reported that the fraud was uncovered during a routine search by customs officials. "It was during their checks that the customs officers spotted chicks hidden in the bus. They immediately informed us, which allowed us to proceed with the seizure," he explained.
For Mr. Sessouma Ibrahim, this operation illustrates the good collaboration between state services, including customs, the veterinary service, and the security forces, in the fight against illegal practices that could threaten animal health and public health. He also recalled that the importation of chicks is formally prohibited in Burkina Faso, in accordance with the regulations in force aimed at preventing the introduction of avian diseases.
After the usual checks, the veterinary service proceeded, on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, to incinerate the seized chicks, in the presence of the Kampti gendarmerie, customs agents as well as the driver of the bus in which the chicks were hidden. This action is part of the strengthening of health controls at borders and the protection of national livestock.
