KAKAMEGA: Kakamega County is set to host the 12th Edition of the Kenya Inter County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) games, slated for November 24-30, 2024. The county won the bid over Mombasa and Nyeri, with more than 40 counties expected to participate in the event.

According to Kenya News Agency, Governor Fernandes Barasa announced that preparations are already underway to ensure a successful championship. The event will feature an array of sporting disciplines, including football, handball, basketball, netball, squash, badminton, and more. Additionally, participants will engage in cultural activities such as choir and dance competitions, providing a platform for showcasing diverse talents.

The competition will see Nairobi County defending its title against formidable opponents, including the host Kakamega, as well as Kisumu and Uasin Gishu counties, which finished second and third, respectively, in the previous year’s championship held in Meru County. Nairobi achieved significant success at tha
t event, winning gold in multiple sports categories.

Governor Barasa emphasized the dual objective of fostering local talent and boosting the hospitality sector in the region. He encouraged the local business community, particularly women, to capitalize on the event’s potential to attract a large audience.

Speaking at Marama North Ward in Butere Sub County, Barasa described the upcoming games as an opportunity for Kakamega County to demonstrate its capability in hosting significant sporting events. Last year’s KICOSCA games attracted participation from 37 counties, and the 2024 event is anticipated to draw even greater interest.
