Kajiado Governor Inaugurates New Facilities at Ngong Level 4 Hospital

Ngong, Kajiado County — Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku, joined by the Kajiado North Member of Parliament and local Members of County Assemblies (MCAs), has unveiled new maternity and morgue buildings at the Ngong Level 4 Hospital in Ngong Town.

According to Kenya News Agency, who presided over the inauguration yesterday, the hospital has made remarkable progress under his administration. Since his re-election last year, he has been committed to elevating the status of the Ngong Sub-County Hospital from a Level 2 facility to its current standing, with aspirations to further raise it to Level 5 before the end of his tenure.

The Governor emphasized the collaborative efforts that led to the success of the hospital’s development, highlighting the work of the hospital board, community health promoters, and the collective contributions from various stakeholders. He reiterated his commitment to prioritizing healthcare in Kajiado County and pledged to ensure that each sub-county would host two Level 4 hospitals.

In his address, Governor Lenku outlined his plan to work alongside President William Ruto to enhance Universal Health Coverage, a program initiated by Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o, calling on Community Health Promoters to support the initiative. He envisioned increased employment opportunities as healthcare facilities continue to expand and urged the hospital board to align their priorities for budget consideration, thereby fostering the hospital’s growth.

Acknowledging the contributions of government security teams and the health department, Governor Lenku encouraged continued service to the community, underlining his belief in the adage, ‘A healthy Nation is a Wealthy Nation.’

Speaking at the event, MCA of Oloolua Ward, Eli Gor, appealed to the Governor to also focus on improving Oloolua Hospital, including increasing the nursing staff to enable round-the-clock operations, similar to Ngong Hospital. MCA of Olkeri Ward, Stephen Ngatho, expressed gratitude towards the Governor for the enhancements in his ward’s healthcare facilities, highlighting the provision of medical supplies and personnel as pivotal to maintaining community health.
