Nahouri: The Burkina Faso Bar Association, led by its president Balibi e Benao, was in the city of P´ on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, as part of a caravan called the "Yib-Belaonn e Yves Somda Caravan." Several activities were organized to honor the memory of the latter, who passed away in 2025 while traveling to Gaoua to advocate for the most vulnerable.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Burkina Faso Bar Association, under the leadership of Bar President Balibi e Benao, deployed its caravan in the city of P´ to pay tribute to Yib-Belaonn e Yves Somda. The caravan aimed to provide advice, ensure the defense of victims being prosecuted before the courts, and commend the work of the magistrates in the courts.
Main activities conducted by the bar association in P´ included visiting prisoners at the P´ detention and correctional facility, exchanging information with the population at the P´ town hall, and providing free legal aid to defendants during an extraordinary court session.
Bar President Balibi e Benao emphasized that this activity was inspired by the commitment of the late Yib-Belaonn e Yves Somda, who tragically disappeared on the road to Gaoua while defending a social cause. He stated, "This caravan is not simply an aid mission. It is a pilgrimage of selflessness. We are not here for mere protocol. We are here because one of our own believed that justice should not be a luxury, but a fundamental right for every Burkinab¨."
For many litigants in P´, including Adama K. (not his real name), the lawyers' arrival provided unexpected hope. Adama K. shared, "I struggle to make ends meet, so how could I have afforded a lawyer? Today, I feel heard. My rights were explained to me, and I know I won't be alone facing the judge."
Prosecutor Ars¨ne Ga«tan Bans e of the P´ court welcomed the initiative, recognizing that it streamlines judicial proceedings and strengthens public trust in the institution.
At the end of a marathon day, lawyer Balibi e Benao praised the bar association for their dedication and commended the judicial actors in P´ for their resilience. "The caravan in P´ marks a decisive step in the fight against judicial exclusion in Burkina Faso," suggested lawyer Balibi e.
