Ouagadougou: Julien Commandan Tindano, a local pharmacist, catechist, choir director, translator, and father of eight, embodies a generation in Manni that has transformed the way people view disability. A portrait of a man whose life has been built in defiance of prejudice.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Julien Commandan Tindano was born in the 1950s, at a time when people living with albinism were frequently stigmatized and kept out of social life. Nothing in this context predestined him to become a moral authority for an entire community. It was the guidance of the Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help (NDPS) that would mark a turning point in his youth, giving him the tools to build a strong personality and turn every obstacle into a springboard.

As an adult, he chose to dedicate his experience to serving others. As the owner of a pharmacy in Manni, he facilitated access to medicines and healthcare for the local population and surrounding areas, establishing himself as a discreet but essential player in community health. His commitment goes far beyond the health sector. A prominent figure in the Catholic Church of Saint Alphonsus of Manni, he led the youth movement for years, training several generations in civic responsibility and spiritual life.

As leader of the Sainte-C©cile choir, he leads religious celebrations and cultural evenings. In the 1990s, he also coordinated youth-led marketing activities for market garden produce in localities such as Yalgo, Thion, Coalla, Soula and Liptougou, and used his translation skills for meetings, conferences and homilies.

Father of eight children, Julien Commandan Tindano attributes part of his journey to his wife, Mano Marie Anne, whose faith, humility and constant support he praises. "Behind every great man there is a great lady," he confides emotionally.

On behalf of the siblings, his daughter Marie-Ange Tindano paid tribute to him for the values passed on and the education received, remembering from him that limits are never inevitable, but challenges to be met with courage, faith and work. Unanimously praised for his humility, integrity and availability, Julien Commandan Tindano is today considered a moral and social reference in Manni.

His journey demonstrates that determination, faith and solidarity can triumph over all forms of discrimination, making his life a source of inspiration for present and future generations. This weekend, on the occasion of his 55th birthday of baptism under the name Julien, his peers, relatives, colleagues and family members paid him a heartfelt tribute.
