Journalists and Communicators Equipped on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights in Burkina Faso

Ouagadougou: Around twenty journalists and communicators participated in a workshop organized by the Action Community for the Promotion of Sexual and Reproductive Health in Burkina Faso (CAPSSR-BF) to address gender inequality and access to sexual and reproductive health in emergency responses.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the workshop aimed to empower media professionals to enhance communication on these critical issues. The event sought to foster an environment conducive to providing quality care for vulnerable populations concerning sexual and reproductive health.

Mariam Nonguierma, president of CAPSSR-BF, emphasized the role of journalists in disseminating crucial information to the public and policymakers, highlighting that unexpected population surges can negatively impact sexual and reproductive health services.

Discussions during the workshop centered on gender-based violence, humanitarian crises, and the accessibility of care services for affected populations. Trainer Awa Yanogo underscored the need to address gender inequalities and focus on the needs of girls and women, who are most in need of sexual and reproductive health care.

Journalists were urged to act as conduits for raising awareness about sexual and reproductive health rights, potentially influencing decision-makers to incorporate gender equality into emergency response strategies.
