Journalist Charles Kiendrébéogo Chronicles Burkina Faso’s Social Issues in New Book

OUAGADOUGOU — Charles Kiendrébéogo, a journalist with National Radio, launched his new book titled ‘I sketched the news on Radio Burkina’ on Thursday, featuring 60 columns that critically examine societal issues and aim to educate the Burkinabè population.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the book compiles social chronicles originally broadcast between 2015 and 2017 on Radio Burkina, encapsulating them in a 133-page document intended to serve future generations. The journalist expressed at the book dedication that the written record would help preserve the insights offered in his reports for scholarly and research purposes. He emphasized that the chronicles not only recount events but also highlight prevalent societal issues like excessive alcohol consumption and poor sanitation, presented in a caricatured and exaggerated manner to attract public attention.

The Director General of Burkina Faso Television Broadcasting (RTB), Atéridar Galip Somé, praised Kiendrébéogo for his dedication and for continuing the tradition of social commentary established by his late predecessor, René Sébego. Somé noted that by converting the spoken word into written form, Kiendrébéogo has given his work longevity and accessibility, allowing it to have a lasting educational impact. He encouraged other journalists at RTB to undertake similar projects to immortalize their contributions to the media landscape.
