Niamey: The President of the Republic, Head of State, Army General Abdourahamane Tiani, announced in an interview with Radio and Television of Niger (RTN) that the joint force of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) has carried out three successful operations since its inception in 2023. The operations were conducted within the confederal space, highlighting the effectiveness of the coalition.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Head of State elaborated on the development process leading to the establishment of the joint force, which symbolizes the security cooperation among the three member countries of the AES. This alliance aims to address and mitigate terrorism in the region through coordinated military efforts.
The operations, involving both bilateral engagements between Mali and Burkina Faso and wider tripartite missions, demonstrate the active role of the Confederation. The most recent operation commenced in January and concluded in February, showcasing the strategic capabilities of the force.
President Tiani emphasized the growing strength and unity of the Alliance states, asserting that their collective power is increasingly significant. The decision to form this joint force came on July 30, 2023, shortly after France’s military intervention announcement in Niger, which demanded the restoration of democratic order within a week.
