Jerome Maake Elected as Chairperson of Ad Hoc Committee on Intelligence Bill

CAPE TOWN – The newly established Ad Hoc Committee on the General Intelligence Laws Amendment Bill has elected Mr Jerome Maake as its Chairperson in its initial meeting following the National Assembly’s resolution.

According to Parliament of South Africa, the committee, formed to review amendments to intelligence laws, is composed of Members of Parliament from multiple parties. The African National Congress is represented by Mr Jerome Maake, Ms Doris Dlakude, Mr Gratitude Magwanishe, Mr Bheki Hadebe, Mr Dikgang Stock, Ms Lusizo Makhubela-Mashele, with Mr Cyril Xaba and Mr Thabo Mmutle as alternates. The Democratic Alliance delegates are Ms Dianne Kohler Barnard and Mr Dirk Stubbe, with Mr Teboho Loate representing the Congress of the People and Mr Ganief Hendricks for Al Jama-Ah.

The formation of the committee and the election of its leadership marks a pivotal step in the legislative process concerning South Africa’s intelligence services.
