Japan Donates USD 300k Worth of Water Access Equipment in Hula

Hula: At least USD 300,000 were donated by the Government of Japan, invested in the acquisition of water pumps, accessories, reservoirs, and training to handle the equipment, in order to strengthen access to liquid for populations in more remote areas of the municipalities in the province of Hula.

According to Angola Press News Agency, this is the Urgent Support Project for the Supply of Water Pumps, which appears as a quick response to the drought in the province of Hula, implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), a donation from Japan to the Angola Government.

When talking about the subject, on Thursday, February 20, after the delivery of five pumps, which will work through solar panels, UNOPS project manager Carolina Costa highlighted that part of the initiative contains technical training sessions for the assembly and maintenance of them and water reservoirs as well.

She highlighted that the project began in April 2024 with visits to the municipalities of Hula to carry out an analysis of boreholes that needed to be rebuilt, and existing ones that need equipment to return to operation.

‘With this, we created a list of priorities and with the number of equipment that we were able to supply with Japan’s support, the project’s donor, we prioritized 43 pumps that we are delivering, in addition to 15 metal water tanks and we held technical training sessions for them,’ she stated.

She also highlighted that it is a project that will strengthen access to drinking water for populations in more rural areas of the municipalities, where USD 300,000 were invested in the acquisition of pumps, accessories, reservoirs, and training sessions.

The action, according to the activist, will reach 23 municipalities in Hula, and 14 are already covered in.
