JIYEH—An Israeli airstrike on a residential building in Jiyeh, a seaside town 30 kilometers south of Beirut, resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to several others on Saturday evening.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the strike targeted a three-story building in the Nabi Younes neighborhood, causing an explosion that was heard across Beirut and nearby Sidon, the capital of Lebanon’s South Governorate. Emergency response teams were quickly dispatched to the scene to manage the aftermath, clearing debris and transporting the injured to hospitals for treatment.
The recent increase in airstrikes by the Israeli army, which began intensifying on September 23, has been part of a broader conflict involving Hezbollah. This escalation has led to significant civilian casualties, displacement of residents, and a “limited” ground operation by Israel in Lebanon. These military actions are part of ongoing clashes that reignited on October 8, 2023, following Hezbollah’s rocket fire into Israel in support of Hamas, prompting retaliatory strikes by Israel in southeastern Lebanon.
