Israel and UAE Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Relations Amid Regional Challenges

Abu Dhabi: Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar stated on Monday that he has engaged in discussions with his UAE counterpart, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations between the two nations. The meeting took place in Abu Dhabi and covered a number of regional issues.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the United Arab Emirates Foreign Ministry earlier announced that the discussions between the two diplomats included talks on renewing the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and addressing the release of hostages held by the Palestinian movement Hamas.

Saar shared on X that he was honored to meet Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed for the second time in Abu Dhabi. He emphasized the importance of addressing the range of regional issues and deepening bilateral ties. Saar acknowledged the significant challenges in the Middle East but expressed optimism about partnering for a future of cooperation and stability.

The United States initiated a process to normalize relations between Israel and the Arab world in 2020, facilitating the Abraham Accords. This led to agreements between Israel and several Arab nations, including the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, and Bahrain. Prior to these accords, Israel had diplomatic relations with only two Arab countries, Jordan and Egypt.
