ISIOLO COUNTY: In a decisive call to action, Isiolo County Commissioner Mr. Geoffrey Omoding has urged development partners to finalize their projects effectively to regain public confidence. Speaking at the International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction event, Mr. Omoding highlighted the community’s dwindling trust due to previously stalled projects and rampant corruption cases.
According to Kenya News Agency, Mr. Omoding pointed out that numerous development initiatives had not reached completion, undermining the public’s trust. He emphasized the necessity for development partners to deliver on their promises and complete projects to a logical conclusion. He remarked on historical issues where funds were misappropriated by schemers who abandoned the projects after their initial approval by the County Steering Group (CSG).
The County Commissioner sternly noted that the CSG would no longer approve joint projects with development partners if they continue to result in delays and corruption. He stated, “We are
warning that no more implementation of joint projects,” signaling a significant shift in how future projects will be managed and overseen.
During the event held at Akadeli Primary School in Burat Ward, which saw the planting of over 500 trees to combat desertification, Mr. Omoding also addressed the issue of security. He declared that the government would act against leaders who incite community violence or harbor criminals. Furthermore, he assured continuous operations along the Marsabit-Isiolo highway to secure the area from banditry and livestock theft.
Additionally, Mr. Omoding called on educational leaders to encourage tree planting within school compounds as part of broader efforts to mitigate climate change and its impacts. He also advised local residents to diversify their agricultural and livestock practices to build resilience against drought.
The Isiolo County Commissioner’s statements reflect a broader governmental effort to ensure that development projects fulfill their intended purposes and c
ontribute positively to the community’s welfare.
