Baghdad: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi strongly asserted in Baghdad that Iran has “no red lines” when it comes to defending its national interests and people. This statement comes in the backdrop of increasing regional tensions following a significant missile attack by Iran on Israel.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Araghchi’s declaration was made during his visit to Baghdad where he emphasized Iran’s readiness to respond to threats, highlighting the absence of any restraint in safeguarding its sovereignty. “While we have made considerable efforts in recent days to avoid a full-scale war in our region, I am making it clear that we have no red lines in defending our people and our interests,” the minister stated on the X website upon his arrival.
This visit follows a series of engagements by Araghchi with various Muslim countries to discuss the escalating conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon, triggered by actions attributed to Israel. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai explained on
X that these consultations are aimed at mitigating the violence and fostering stability in the region.
Moreover, Ali al-Moussaoui, a political adviser to Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Soudani, remarked that the purpose of these talks is to “silence the weapons and the violence” and ensure regional security. Conversely, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein expressed Iraq’s opposition to an extended conflict and the use of Iraqi airspace in these confrontations.
The Iranian foreign minister’s tour also included stops in Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, and Syria, reflecting a comprehensive effort to address the regional crises through diplomacy.
The regional dynamics have been further complicated by ongoing conflicts between Israel and Hamas, and the opening of a new front by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, purportedly in support of Hamas. Following these developments, the Israeli military has escalated its operations against Hezbollah, culminating in a ground offensive launched on September 30.
