WINDHOEK — The Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) has officially commended the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) for its successful registration of 91 percent of eligible voters across the nation.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the recently concluded general registration of voters (GRV), which ran from June 3 to August 1, saw an impressive tally of 1,467,604 individuals registered. This marks a significant increase from the 1,358,468 voters registered in 2019, indicating a growth of about 109,136 voters. IPC national secretary general Christine Aochamus highlighted these figures during a press briefing on Wednesday, acknowledging the challenges faced and overcome by the ECN during this period.
The registration success was part of a broader voter engagement initiative by IPC, including the launch of their ‘Go out to Register Campaign’ at the onset of the registration period. The high turnout is seen by the IPC as evidence of the Namibian public’s keen interest in participating in the democratic process and shaping the country’s future.
As the November 27, 2024, Presidential and National Assembly elections approach, with IPC leader Panduleni Itula running as the main candidate, the party has called for a commitment to fairness and transparency in the upcoming electoral process. Aochamus also urged all political entities and the media to adhere strictly to the electoral code of conduct, while condemning any forms of political intimidation and misinformation.
