Ioba Government Boosts Agriculture with Substantial Seed and Fertilizer Distribution

IOBA – In a significant push to enhance agricultural productivity, the government has provided 560 tonnes of seeds, 480 tonnes of mineral fertilizers, and tractors to local producers, as announced by Léandre Dabiré, the Provincial Director in charge of Agriculture in Ioba.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the announcement came during the flag-raising ceremony on June 3, 2024, highlighting the government’s commitment to bolster agricultural activities across the province. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve food sovereignty and nutritional security in the region. Notably, five of the eight municipalities in Ioba have already received their tractors, a move promised by President Ibrahim Traoré, with the remaining three set to receive theirs shortly.

In addition to the tractors, the distribution of seeds and fertilizers aims to significantly increase agricultural outputs. Mr. Dabiré also noted the development of 30 hectares of lowlands per commune dedicated to rice production and the establishment of a model 10-hectare MARAH field by DPARAH agents in Ioba to demonstrate effective agricultural practices.

Bernadette Adenyo / Sermé, the high commissioner of Ioba province, endorsed the government’s efforts and emphasized the ongoing agro-pastoral initiatives aimed at achieving food self-sufficiency. She called for community support to ensure the success of these agricultural endeavors and expressed gratitude to local landowners and authorities for their cooperation.

Ms. Adenyo also extended her best wishes for a successful agricultural season to all producers and fishery workers, as well as to students undertaking school examinations in the province.
