Dano: The provincial coordination of the Federation of Islamic Associations of Burkina (FAIB) in Ioba was officially inaugurated on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. The ceremony, held in Dano, was presided over by the High Commissioner of Ioba province, Bernadette Adenyo née Sermé.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the provincial coordination was established by seven Islamic associations in Ioba. This new body, comprising representatives from each Islamic association in Ioba, aims to serve as the primary point of contact for provincial authorities on matters concerning the Muslim community. The coordination office is comprised of seven members, led by Bachirou Soré as coordinator and El Adj Siaka Fofana as vice-president.
During the event, High Commissioner Bernadette Adenyo/Sermé, the prefect, Denis Zanré, president of the special municipal delegation (PDS) of Dano, and Drissa Ouattara, regional president of the FAIB in the southwest, jointly officiated the installation of the FAIB Ioba coordination members. The office, which has a renewable five-year mandate, was hailed for its potential to enhance the representation and address the challenges of the Muslim community in the province.
Coordinator Bachirou Soré expressed gratitude for the guidance and support from regional authorities and pledged the office’s commitment to the mandates of their respective structures. He emphasized the creation of a unified working framework to foster coexistence and address the difficulties faced by the Muslim community in Ioba.
Denis Zanré, the PDS of Dano, commended the new members, while El Adj Sabdina Cissé, the imam of the great mosque of Dano, blessed the office members and urged unity and support among the Muslims in Ioba. The head of the Dano canton, Naonfa 2, and Drissa Ouattara, president of the regional coordination of the FAIB in the southwest, expressed satisfaction with the establishment of the provincial coordination, a task of the regional office.
High Commissioner Adenyo underscored the significance of the installation as a culmination of a consensual process involving all Islamic associations in the province. She highlighted the role of the new office in strengthening the collaboration between the Muslim community and the central administration, emphasizing the importance of religious freedom and coexistence in Burkina Faso. Adenyo called on the members of the provincial coordination to fortify unity within the Muslim community of Ioba.
