Mbanza kongo: At least 1,950 liters of gasoline intended for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) were seized last weekend by the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) in Mbanza Kongo, Zaire Province. According to Angola Press News Agency, SIC spokesperson José Bernardo Bebeto stated that the fuel, which was being transported by motorcycle and vehicle, was seized as part of a micro-operation carried out by SIC specialists in the region. Bebeto detailed that the gasoline was packaged in plastic containers, including one-and-a-half-liter mineral water bottles, in an attempt to deceive the forces deployed along National Road 120, which connects the municipalities of Mbanza Kongo and Luvo. "Smugglers are now using mineral water bottles to transport fuel to the neighboring country. They wrap the product in cloth and stuff it into three-wheeled motorcycles," Bebeto explained. The spokesperson reported that seven suspected smugglers were arrested during the operation, and four three-wheeled motorcycles and thre e vehicles were seized. The fuel was allegedly acquired at gas stations in Mbanza Kongo and seized at a police checkpoint in Vombo, on the road to the DRC border.
