International Youth Day Marked by Civic Engagement and Awareness Activities in Houndé

HOUNDÉ — The Provincial Directorate of Youth, Vocational Training, and Employment of Tuy, in collaboration with local youth organizations, celebrated International Youth Day from August 12 to 14, 2024. The event in Houndé focused on “Youth, citizen monitoring, and the fight against insecurity in Burkina Faso.”

According to Burkina Information Agency, the President of the special municipal delegation of Houndé, the celebration showcased the political commitment to addressing the concerns of young people and integrating them as key actors in Burkina Faso’s socio-economic development. Activities included a conference on citizen engagement, discussions on addictive behaviors, a sanitation drive, an aerobics session, and a road safety awareness campaign at Houndé crossroads.

Mr. Dianda highlighted the significance of the youth, who make up more than 77% of Burkina’s population, as the future pillars of the nation. He praised their energy and determination and encouraged their participation in promoting peace and coexistence. El Hadj Salam Ouédraogo, the day’s patron and president of the Organization of Road Transporters of Faso (OTRAF) Houndé section, emphasized the importance of understanding and cooperation among youth to face various societal challenges.

N’Kini Sangara, president of the Tuy provincial youth council, urged young individuals to engage actively in the day’s activities, which were designed to foster a sense of community and responsibility. Zoumana Traoré, the Provincial Director in charge of youth, expressed gratitude to all contributors to the event’s success and hoped for the continuous celebration of such initiatives in the region.

The event also included a significant community service component, with a sanitation operation at the Medical Center with a surgical branch (CMA) in Houndé, culminating in the distribution of health kits for patient care.
