Soum: The Soum province celebrated International Women's Day in Djibo through several awareness-raising activities and discussions on the contribution of women to the promotion of peace and living together.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the commemoration was chaired by the High Commissioner of Soum Province, Wend Nere Wilfried Tougma, and organized under the auspices of the provincial coordination of women's organizations. The activities commenced with a presentation by the Soum Provincial Director of Women, National Solidarity, Family, and Humanitarian Action, held in the town hall meeting room. Participants were briefed on the national theme: "Building Lasting Peace in Burkina Faso: What Contribution Can Women and Girls Make to Promoting Social Cohesion?"
The celebration continued with a women's football match, attracting many women and girls from the local area. In the commune of Arbinda, women marked the event with a tea party and a conference on the same theme. Organizers have also planned other commemorative activities for later dates in the commune of Kelbo.
The ceremony saw the attendance of administrative and military authorities, religious and traditional leaders, provincial directors, and heads of services, along with a large number of civilians, both men and women. In an atmosphere of joy and social cohesion, the discussions reaffirmed the commitment of the various stakeholders to the empowerment of women and the promotion of social cohesion in the Soum province.
