Ouagadougou: The President of the Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT), Ousmane Bougma, opened a conference on Thursday organized by the Association of Secretaries of the Transitional Legislative Assembly (ASAN) to raise awareness among its members about their health at work. “A sick woman cannot be productive in the field,” according to ASAN President Silvia Ami Sanou.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the secretaries chose to reflect on the theme of “Women’s Health at Work,” in order to possibly prepare themselves for prevention methods to be effective at work, she explained. For her, through this conference, the association wishes to draw women’s attention to problems that are often invisible or underestimated, such as menstrual pathologies, female cancers, or chronic pain, which can affect their efficiency and well-being at work.

All situations that can positively or negatively impact women’s health and their impact on productivity at work and means of prevention will be addressed, according t
o the panelist, Professor Charlemagne Ouédraogo. According to him, awareness will focus particularly on women’s reproductive health in order to help them know what they need to do to prevent a number of diseases in order to be more effective at work. “A woman who has cervical cancer will not be able to be effective at work. A woman who has breast cancer will not be able to be effective at work,” he informed.

This conference, which is part of the 72 hours of the Secretary of the Transitional Legislative Assembly, is being held on the occasion of the celebration of International Secretary’s Day, scheduled for May 18.
