Lima—Peruvian striker Gianluca Lapadula will not participate in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil due to an abdominal injury.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) announced on Thursday that Lapadula, who sustained the injury during a match for Cagliari against Cremonese in the Coppa Italia on September 24, has been officially withdrawn from the national squad. The FPF’s statement did not specify whether there will be a replacement for the 34-year-old forward.

Peru is set to host Uruguay in Lima on October 11 and will face Brazil in Brasilia on October 15. These matches are crucial for Jorge Fossati’s team, which is currently at the bottom of the 10-team South American qualifying group, still seeking its first win.
