Infrastructure Financing Summit Aims to Raise USD 160 Billion for African Projects

Luanda: The third Summit on Financing for Infrastructure Development in Africa is set to occur from October 28 to 31 in Luanda, targeting the mobilization of up to 160 billion US dollars. This initiative aims to bridge the existing funding gap for critical structural projects across the continent.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Arlindo Rangel, CEO of the Private Investment and Export Promotion Agency (AIPEX), revealed these plans during a press conference organized by the Technical Support Group for the Commission tasked with preparing, coordinating, and organizing the event. Rangel highlighted that Angola will present 16 structural projects over the four days, focusing on sectors such as transport and logistics, renewable energy, and technology, with significant attention given to the Lobito Corridor and port infrastructure.

The summit is co-hosted by the Government of Angola and the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) and will attract over 2,000 delegates. These include Heads of State, ministers, financial institution representatives, and other guests from both the continent and beyond. Carlos dos Santos, Minister of Public Works, Urbanism, and Housing, stated that the initiative, under Angola’s presidency of the African Union, aims to foster public-private partnerships, share best practices, and enhance sustainable investment in crucial infrastructure.

The Minister further noted that the event will also highlight Angola’s efforts in infrastructure rehabilitation and expansion, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union’s Agenda 2063. The summit will feature thematic sessions, business forums, and bilateral meetings, gathering policymakers, experts, and investors to review progress since the last summit held in Dakar, Senegal, in 2023.

The event will conclude with the adoption of the Luanda Political Declaration, a document that will reaffirm the commitment to advancing structural projects across Africa.
