Mo§smedes: The chairperson of the Namibe Commercial and Industrial Association (ACIM), Amadeu Silva, advocated for increased support from banks to the productive sector during a recent meeting in Mo§Smedes. Silva emphasized that enhanced financial backing is crucial for diversifying the economy and boosting national production.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Silva expressed concern over the lack of support from key institutions, highlighting that the limited engagement of credit bodies undermines the business community. He stressed that without bank support, entrepreneurs face significant challenges in growing their businesses. Silva pointed out that although the government mandates banks to allocate 3% of the non-mandatory reserve for credit, many banks opt to pay fines instead of offering credit to entrepreneurs.
Silva also mentioned that ACIM, which comprises 150 members, plays a vital role in strengthening the province's industrial landscape. Its members are active in various sectors, including ornamental rock extraction, manufacturing, fishing, agriculture, and hospitality and tourism.
Looking ahead, Silva revealed that the association plans to open a university hospital to the public in the coming months. The project has received official approval, and the hospital staff is currently undergoing specialized training abroad. Local entrepreneurs involved in this initiative aim to enhance hospital management and improve the quality of health services in both the province and the country.
