Kuala Lumpur: Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) announced on Wednesday that 4,834 families whose homes were flooded in 15 villages in Gresik Regency, East Java, have received assistance.
According to Namibia Press Agency, prolonged heavy rainfall caused the Lamong and Surabaya rivers to overflow, resulting in flooding in various Gresik Regency areas. Abdul Muhari, head of the BNPB Data, Information, and Communication Center, stated that since early Tuesday, floodwaters have submerged 194 hectares of rice farms, six educational buildings, two health facilities, and 13 intercity routes, with water levels reaching heights of 20 to 100 centimeters.
Muhari added that no fatalities have been reported so far and that residents are being evacuated at various points. The quick response team continues to conduct field inspections to ensure that people's needs are met, including distributing logistics assistance and monitoring water levels.
BNPB has urged people to remain vigilant and follow authorities' recommendations, emphasizing the importance of moving to safer areas if flood levels rise and pose a threat.
