Jakarta: Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia announced that the government is exploring the possibility of importing crude oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Russia, alongside seeking cooperation on reactivating idle wells.
According to Namibia Press Agency, these initiatives were discussed during a recent visit by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to Russia. The minister revealed that a Russian business delegation is scheduled to visit Indonesia for discussions with the ministry. "We have carried out the exploration (to import crude oil and LPG). This week, I will have a meeting with a team from Russia. The team is from Russian state-owned enterprises that will visit Indonesia," Bahlil stated.
Indonesia imports 7 million tons of LPG annually, and Russia could potentially become one of its suppliers if the LPG prices are competitive. Regarding the reactivation of idle wells, the minister emphasized the need for technological collaboration with Russia, highlighting the necessity for Indonesia to learn the appropriate technology. "We have idle wells, but for the technology, we have to learn and collaborate," he added.
