India to Host Commonwealth Games 2030 in Ahmedabad

Windhoek: India on Wednesday celebrated the approval for hosting the centenary Commonwealth Games in 2030. The Games would be held in the Ahmedabad city of western state of Gujarat.

According to Namibia Press Agency, this would be the second occasion in 20 years for India to host the Commonwealth Games, as the Games were held in the capital city New Delhi in October 2010.

Celebrating the moment, the country's Home Minister Amit Shah stated that it was a day of immense joy and pride for India. "Heartiest congratulations to every citizen of India on Commonwealth Association's approval of India's bid to host the Commonwealth Games 2030 in Ahmedabad. It is a grand endorsement of PM Narendra Modi's relentless efforts to place India on the world sports map," Shah posted on X.

Hailing the development, Federal Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also said that it was a huge moment for Indian sports. He posted a message on X saying, "Grateful to Commonwealth Sport's Executive Board for recommending Ahmedabad as the proposed host city for the Centenary Commonwealth Games in 2030, a proud milestone for our nation. This decision reflects India's growing dominance in global sports."
