Ouagadougou: The Muslim community of Zourma-Kirkou and Zourma-Sakoula inaugurated two mosques on Friday under the joint sponsorship of the Sunni community and thanks to the fundraising efforts of a local son of the evangelical faith.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the communities of Zourma-Kirkou and Zourma-Sakoula, in the commune of Zabr©, Boulgou province, officially inaugurated two new mosques on Friday, June 5, 2026. The ceremony, held under the banner of social cohesion and living together, brought together administrative, religious, and traditional authorities.

Placed under the patronage of the Minister of Energy, Mines and Quarries, Yacouba Zabr© Gouba, represented by his chief of staff, Salif Boussim, and the co-patronage of El Hadj Ousmane Gouba, president of the Sunni community of Zabr©, the ceremony was marked by prayers, blessings, and calls for peace and national unity.

Representing the minister, Salif Boussim praised the commitment of the people and those of goodwill who contributed to the realization of religious infrastructure. 'These mosques are places of worship, but also spaces for gathering, education, and strengthening social cohesion. Their construction testifies to the vitality of our community and its commitment to the values ??of solidarity,' he declared. He also expressed his delight at the presence of traditional authorities and members of various religious denominations.

"The participation of traditional leaders, Catholics and Protestants in this ceremony concretely reflects the living together and fraternity advocated by the highest authorities of our country," he added.

The co-sponsor of the ceremony, El Hadj Ousmane Gouba, emphasized that the inauguration of the two religious buildings was the result of a collective effort. 'A mosque should not belong to any one Muslim faction. I am Sunni and I am here to support the Muslim community. This is the spirit of unity that our country needs today. I thank the donor and all those who contributed to the realization of this project,' he stated.

The imam of Zabr©, Cheick Issa Guira, invited the faithful to make these mosques frameworks for strengthening faith and promoting moral values. 'A mosque is a school of morality, brotherhood and peace. We offer blessings so that these places may benefit current and future generations,' he stated.

Infrastructure donor Cheick Souleymane Kabaywa urged the people to preserve the spirit of social cohesion and solidarity that made the project possible. "Unity and solidarity remain the keys to the success of any community endeavor. These mosques must continue to bring people together around the values ??of peace, tolerance and fraternity advocated by our authorities, led by Comrade Captain Ibrahim Traor©," he argued.

Among the guests of honor, Adja de Youga and Omar Ilboudo were delighted by the strong turnout for the event. Hermann Zinguim Yabr©, a son of Zourma, recalled that the initiative originated from a meeting during a preaching and healing session in Adja, Youga. According to him, it was on this occasion that he presented to the donor the need to provide his community with suitable places of worship.

'This achievement demonstrates that when communities join hands, they can bring to fruition projects that benefit everyone,' he declared. 'I am Protestant, but when my brother Seydou Yabr© told me about the village's need for mosques, I didn't hesitate to knock on doors to seek support. Today, the entire community benefits from this achievement,' he confided.

According to the donor, the construction of the two mosques required a total investment of 23 million CFA francs. The ceremony concluded with prayers and blessings for peace, security, and development in Burkina Faso.
