IMF Lowers Bangladesh Growth Forecast to 4.9 Percent for FY26

Dhaka: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has revised its economic forecast for Bangladesh, projecting a growth rate of 4.9 percent for the fiscal year 2026 (FY26), a decrease from its earlier estimate of 5.4 percent. This adjustment comes as part of the IMF's latest World Economic Outlook for October 2025.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the IMF also anticipates a rise in Bangladesh's inflation rate to 8.7 percent, up from the previously projected 6.2 percent. This forecast reflects a significant increase in inflation expectations for the country.

The IMF's revised growth outlook presents a more cautious perspective compared to the World Bank, which recently projected Bangladesh's growth rate to be slightly higher at 4.8 percent for FY26, with an expected increase to 6.3 percent by FY27.

In contrast, the Asian Development Bank's (ADB) September outlook estimated Bangladesh's economic growth at 4.0 percent for FY25, with a projection of 5.0 percent growth in FY26.
