ICT as a Tool Against Terrorism in the Sahel, Says Burkinabè Minister

BAMAKO, Mali - The Burkinabè Minister of Digital Economy emphasized on Wednesday in Bamako that Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) can significantly aid in combating armed terrorist groups in the Sahel. "ICT is an essential contribution to our legitimate fight against the forces of evil in many ways," said Dr. Aminata Zerbo/Sabane, the Minister of Digital Economy.

According to Burkina Information Agency, who spoke during the 2nd edition of Mali's digital week on June 25, 2024, digital technology plays a strategic role in the ongoing battle against insecurity faced by the Sahel states. She shared Burkina Faso's vision on the theme: "ICT as a factor of resilience in the face of the multifaceted crisis in the Sahel, opportunities and challenges." The minister highlighted the critical role of new technologies in defense and security actions to monitor, inform, and combat threats.

Burkina Faso, along with Mali and Niger, is part of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), which has combined resources to fight against terrorism impacting their populations and threatening their existence.
