IAEA Chief Warns of Nuclear Safety Risks in Ukraine

Kyiv: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi has raised concerns about ongoing nuclear safety issues in Ukraine, as reported by the Ukrainian media outlet TSN.ua. During his visit to Ukraine, Grossi highlighted the persistent risks associated with nuclear safety in the region.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Grossi stated, “It is clear that the dangers to nuclear safety continue to be very real and ever-present.” He underscored the importance of the IAEA’s presence at Ukrainian nuclear power plants to help avert a severe nuclear accident.

The Chernobyl plant, the site of one of the most catastrophic nuclear accidents in history, experienced a catastrophic event on April 26, 1986. A series of explosions in the No. 4 reactor led to widespread radiation contamination across Ukraine and other parts of Europe.
