Huambo: The Director of Education of Huambo Province, Jos© Rodrigues, has announced the distribution of hygiene products to schools across all 17 municipalities as a measure to prevent cholera outbreaks. This initiative aims to bolster the health system within educational institutions and enhance the social responsibility of teaching staff.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the first batch of these hygiene kits, including 26,000 liters of bleach and 2,600 liters of alcohol gel, was symbolically presented to the Municipal Education Directorate of Huambo Municipality. The distribution will cover all school units in the region.
Jos© Rodrigues emphasized the role of teachers in cholera prevention, noting that they are actively addressing the disease by conducting awareness sessions before classes and organizing meetings to educate students about preventive measures. He stressed the importance of collaborative efforts to intensify campaigns against cholera, involving teachers, traditional authorities, education officials, health technicians, and both party and religious institutions.
The province of Huambo has reported four cases of cholera, highlighting the urgency of these preventive measures. The Huambo municipality oversees 195 school units, catering to nearly 379,000 students from primary to secondary levels.
